To stir you up a little, we've decided to prepare an illustrated battle report.
It can be found here:
http://www.dwarftales.com/articles/15

I hope that it will stimulate you to assemble and paint your own Warcanto warbands and soon Dagr Kadur will swarm with brave adventurers seeking for the treasures of Avals!

That was a great report. It was fun to read and the pictures were of remarkable quality. One thing bothers me 'though. The dwarf hero had a skill he shouldn't have had. He had Ranger's Apprentice which is an Ungrvil Way skill. All of the rest of his skills were Halgval, Grand Heirloom and miscelaneous. As far as I know a hero is only allowed to have skills from one main branch (or Path). This one had skills from two main paths. However, He didn't use the odd skill duirng the battle so it's no biggy. I don't think he even shot once.

Have Chill and myself been missunderstanding the rules all along? Maybe it's a typo or you missremembered your notes from the game but it's not a major issue as the eroneous skill was never used :).

He did shoot ;)

There is nothing in the rulebook that forbids you to develop more than one "main skill branche". The idea is that Hero can mix different paths!
This was already discussed in the Warcanto Rules Discussion section:

yes you’re right

but maybe we should indicate it more clearly in the next rulebook ;)

Yes please. The current wording gives the impression that a hero picks one main branch and is restricted to it and miscelaneous skills. Ah, I think I found it. There's 2 bits on page 20 (25 of the pdf):

Quote:
Leader must know at least one lower-level skill from the main skill branch to gain skills of a higher level of the particular main skill branch.

I'd recommend changing that to the following:

Quote:
Leader must know at least one lower-level skill from a main skill branch to gain skills of a higher level of the same main skill branch.

That'd help prevent any missunderstandings. You see, the way that sentence was originaly written implied that the hero has to choose a main skill branch rather than that he can develope all three.

The second bit I'd recommend changing is this as it adds to the confusion:

Quote:
Leader may not have skills from higher levels of the additional skill branch, untill he reaches the desired level in one of the main branches.

I'd recommend possibly changing that to:

Quote:
Leader may not have skills from higher levels of the additional skill branch, untill he reaches the desired level in any of the main branches.

Thanks, Matt, for clearing this up :). I'm sure our heroes will become much more varied in the future as currently every hero we've made has stuck rigidly to one main skill branch ('cause that's what we thought it said in the rules).

There is nothing wrong with a Hero following only one Path! :D I'd say that it's more challenging ;)
